Dupont Circle Farmer's Market - Washington, DC

Last Sunday, I visited the Dupont Circle Farmer's Market with some friends and the family. Farmer's markets are great places to make photos. Everything sold at the market is fresh and local, so most likely the objects you are photographing are at their peak. Plus there's plenty of fresh produce and other goods to sample. Check out the photos below (I wasn't too happy with the scan job by Walgreens this time).

On another note, since I've been shooting with my Yashica, I haven't picked up my digital camera once. I gotta give a shout out to my fellow photog Akins Lawal for introducing me to film. I've also been reading Jonathan Canlas' book "Film Is Not Dead" to learn more about shooting film -- I highly recommend it. Jonathan Canlas is a great artist and a master when it comes to film photography.

My dog - Shea at the dog park

Here are a couple of photos of Shea at the dog park. Made these with the Yashica FX-3 using my light meter iPhone app. I still haven't been able to find batteries for my built-in light meter.

My first film roll (part 2)

Here are more photos from my first roll of film. I developed the film at Walgreens so that scan quality isn't that great. With shooting film and 100% manual, you really have to trust yourself with what you know. Right now I'm learning the quirkiness of my Yaschica and possibilities with film.

My first film roll

I think I get it now why there are some people who think you can only achieve certain results with film. I'm a believer now. Below are my first photos with film using Kodak Portra 160 NC (expired 2007). I had lunch with the family in Old Town Leesburg today at Fireworks Pizza and made these photos below. My light meter didn't work on my Yashica because I couldn't find any batteries for it, instead I used a light meter app on my iPhone...not bad.

I gotta say that Carl Zeiss lens is a beast. I need to learn how to tame it...it's one powerful lens. I'll post more from my first roll tomorrow.

Entering the film game

This week my film camera finally arrived in the mail. Welcome the Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 35mm film camera. I bought it used and plus it came with a 50mm 1.7 Carl Zeiss lens which made it a steal. This camera was a classic in it's hey day and was used by many aspiring photographers to learn the basics of photography. I plan on shooting a couple of rolls of Kodak Portra 160nc and vc to see what I get. The film is actually expired so I might get some mixed results - we'll see. I'll try to post some photos tomorrow or Sunday. Here's my new baby below.
