Capturing motion

So yesterday morning I walked around DC taking pictures for my photography class.  The goal was to capture motion and to use shutter speed and aperture to compose my photographs.  I'm telling you this photography thing is not as easy at it seems.  Here's a couple of photos for your viewing pleasure.  Let me know what you think...I need feedback.

This one is from the ice rink near the Smithsonian -- it's a little overexposed. 

Tell you the truth I wasn't too happy with what I took on Saturday, so I pulled one I took in NYC over the summer.  It's post processed but the "blur" effect came from adjusting my shutter speed. 

Maybe it's because NYC is better city to photograph...that's for a different blog entry.

Hint -- it's in front of a popular brunch spot.

I shot the video using my Nikon D90 DSLR with a 35mm lens and edited the movie in iMovie.  I really like the lighting in these shots and how the taxi cabs serve as a canvas to the stylish New Yorkers walking by.  Anyway, just a good way to spend a cold and rainy day indoors.

Welcome to the new edition of Mike 2.0

As you may or may not know, I used to blog using my old site at mikevibe.blogspot.com and now I've decided to resurrect my blog using SquareSpace.  Part of me is doing this to consolidate my personal social media content since I'm (just like everyone else) on Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, etc.  While this blog will be connected to those outlets, I'm also recreating my blog so that I can take advantage of what Facebook does to millions on a daily basis.  Millions share their personal information on Facebook not knowing that Facebook is able to turn their information to profit for themselves.  Obviously, this site won't make millions for me but it's a way I'll share information about myself without having to do it directly on three or four different sites.

Anyway, continue to check this blog out.  As usual, I'll have pictures and topics on food, wine, photography, among may other things.  It's a peek into my world...a lifestyle blog.
